Ferrari 296 GTB: Ferrari goes green

Image
https://ift.tt/3BWrkqd Ferrari has entered a new era; one in which greener and more sustainable technology will be used to power its mainstream supercars. The latest of these is the new 296 GTB, the name derived from the new 2.9-litre V6 engine, placed between the driver and the rear axle. This is the first use of a V6 in a production car with a Ferrari badge on the nose, and the 296 GTB gets a plug-in hybrid system with an all-electric mode. To go on sale alongside the F8 Tributo, which will likely go out of production in 2022, the 296 GTB is expected to be in Indian showrooms by mid-2022, and will come at an expected price of Rs 5.7 crore. The design just works. Ferrari has returned successfully to the clean but voluptuous look earlier adopted for its mid-engine cars. The designers have used a combination of a sharp nose, a visor-style windscreen and muscular rear fenders, with typically Ferrari flying buttresses flanking the engine. They help with rigidity and help give the roofli

Blog: Powering up

Image
https://ift.tt/37dYbbY Tesla and OLA are yet to sell a single vehicle in India, but they have managed to whip up much brouhaha already. Earlier this month Tesla had asked the Indian Government to lower import duties on fully imported EVs – currently EVs are taxed at the same rate as IC engine cars.  Notably, Hyundai too backed this request, however in response, OLA feels the Government should not do so, with CEO Bhavish Aggarwal saying we should “have confidence in our ability to build indigenously and also attract global OEMs to build in India, not just import.” Naturally this has sparked much nationalistic debate about allowing a foreign player easy entry into our market. After all why should outside firms be allowed an easier entry when they should instead ‘make in India’.  And this is a very valid point made, we must continue to increase our manufacturing economy, luxury brands like Mercedes and Audi have for long being making cars in India and so this isn’t something new.  How

Review: Audi e-tron 55 quattro review, road test

Image
https://ift.tt/3fhboFb What we have here is Audi’s first mass-produced electric vehicle – the e-tron. The name, however, made its debut in 2009 and appeared on several all-electric and plug-in hybrid Audi concepts, as well as on some limited-run production models. In 2018, however, at this SUV’s curtain raiser, the company paved a definitive direction for the e-tron sub-brand and, henceforth, all its present and future EVs will fall under the e-tron umbrella and flaunt the moniker in their identity; for example, e-tron 55, e-tron GT, Q4 e-tron and so on. Also not exactly new, is the car in contention, which hit international showrooms in 2019 and set off to a strong start, but supply chain constraints resulted in soaring global waiting periods and subsequent delays. The India-launch, scheduled for 2019, was delayed and that extended further due to the pandemic. So, it is only now, in the middle of 2021, that we are finally getting the e-tron in India. As a result, despite being one

This increase, along with the additional state subsidies, has resulted in revised pricing that comes close to those of 125cc ICE scooters. With the price now much more tempting, we can now address the other aspect that most customers would be curious to know more about – the real-world range.   What is the real world range of the TVS iQube electric scooter? The TVS iQube managed to cover 48km in Power mode and a liveable 74km in Eco mode. The range in Power mode is acceptable if you factor in that it doesn’t automatically switch to Eco in the last 20 percent of remaining battery life, like the Ather 450X does. The range i
