Foxconn to make iPhone 14 in India

India is set to manufacture Apple’s flagship iPhone 14 smartphones with the company confirming that the devices would be made in India at contract-manufacturer Foxconn’s factory in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. This would perhaps be the quickest scale-up that Apple has initiated in its India manufacturing setup with the latest iPhone being made here within weeks of its global unveiling on September 7.

I’ve lived with the i20 iMT (intelligent manual transmission) for a couple of months now and can vouch for the unique transmission as a good halfway house between a conventional manual and a far pricier torque-converter or dual-clutch automatic. You could argue: ‘What’s the point? You have to change gears anyway’, and while that is true, if like me, you’ve grown up on a diet of manual-transmission cars, that task will be second nature to you. It’s the absence of a clutch pedal that makes all the difference. An iMT (intelligent manual transmission) automates clutch modulation – a big pain point in crawling, rush-hour commutes – and, at least in the i20’s case, does its job surprisingly well.
