Laptop ban: IT hardware companies may require global certification

The Indian government is considering implementing a new requirement for importers of laptops, servers, and other IT hardware to obtain international certification attesting that their products come from trusted sources. This move is aimed at addressing potential security issues and safeguarding sensitive data. The government had previously announced import curbs but later deferred the decision following concerns raised by the industry. The new licensing regime, set to begin on November 1, will monitor imports and ensure a trusted supply chain for the Indian digital ecosystem. Leading electronic brands such as Apple, Dell, and HP are likely to benefit from this announcement.
